great band i discovered through Bieler Bros Records

they seem to be a fusion band
of rock and reggae
they describe themselves as a
"ragga punk metal"

check em out if you have the time
they just released a new album, roots rock riot

im loving it and im trying to track down their debut CD

standout tracks for me are

It's an old thread, but what the hell...

... yeah I'm a big Skindred fan. Saw them last summer on the neighbouring island of Guernsey and they were awesome. I've been a fan since Dub War, which was the band Skindred originally were in the 90s.

Dub War were on Earache Records (same label that Napalm Death, Godflesh, Cathedral and Pitchshifer were on) and made very similiar music to Skindred, but had more emphasis on the dub-reggae and punk influences, as opposed to Skindred's more riff-based metal sound.

Then they split up after being screwed around by the label for years, then all of Dub War except the bassist reunited as Skindred and released 'Babylon'. The album was reissued 3 times on different small labels (who kept dropping them) with different track-listings and the old Dub War guitarist and drummer left the band having been sick of all the years of being screwed around by labels.

Benji the singer continued Skindred with an all new line-up, who've since done two more albums; 'Roots Rock Riot' and 'Shark Bites and Dog Fights'. The other guys from Dub War got back together and formed as Raw Bud and did a single with Roni Size entitled Rise Up, but sadly haven't done anything since.

Benji also notably guested on the first Soulfly album on the tracks Quilombo and Fire.
